This micro-credential represents a single module within a larger further award (eg. Certificate, Diploma, Masters). This MicroCred is designed to:

  • provide a conceptual understanding of the role of the manager and to help apply techniques towards the self-analysis of management and leadership styles, time management priorities, and planning or organisational skills
  • explore the main theories of management and leadership
  • critically evaluate the current practices of planning, organising leading and controlling within the organisation
  • heighten awareness of current personal effectiveness as a Manager and to provide action planning skills to help design personal development plans aimed at improving managerial performance
  • apply management skills and techniques to improving personal performance and team performance.

On successful completion of this MicroCred, students will be able to:                                                                                                                 

  • Describe the main roles, functions and challenges faced by managers
  • Differentiate between management and leadership and the ways the  two concepts can be integrated and linked to team working
  •  Appraise the  theories of leadership and relate these to their own personal styles to the workplace
  • Evaluate their own styles of leadership and identify areas of strengths and development
  • Recognise the importance of personal effectiveness in managing oneself before  managing others
  • Analyse patterns of time usage, planning and ongoing, one’s time, and how to  delegate tasks effectively
  • Apply different approaches to problem solving and decision-making
  • Challenge own values on current management style and reflect upon improved ways of managing and leading groups.

 

Assessment: There is no final exam for this module. You will be assessed through 1-2 continuous skill based assignments, provided by your lecturer

The programme is open to managers, supervisors or those aspiring to a managerial role with a minimum of two years organisational experience. Completion of an NFQ level 6 certificate in management or equivalent qualification. 

Entry requirements are established to ensure the learner can engage with the course material and assessments, at a level suitable to their needs, and the academic requirements of the module. By applying to this micro-credential, you are confirming that you have reviewed and understand any such requirements, and that you meet the eligibility criteria for admission.

Successful completion of this module does not automatically qualify you for entry into a further award. All programme applicants must meet the entry requirements listed if applying for a further award.
