What are Orientation and Induction?

Orientation typically refers to on-campus activities (Welcome Addresses, Course Talks, Campus Tours, etc.) arranged for the Friday before the start of Semester (Friday 6th Sept). It is also an opportunity for you to meet fellow peers and UL faculty and start the socialisation process.

Online Induction varies from programme to programme and is run during the 10 day window ahead of the start of your studies. It comprises of a suite of faculty-led online activities that will provide you with programme information and gives you exposure to the virtual learning platform. This will enable you to familiarise yourself with the general layout, navigation, structure and underlying interaction mechanisms, without having to worry about academic performance during this period.

This will vary from programme to programme and will largely consist of course-related information posted to BrightSpace. Your faculty will contact you directly in this regard so please monitor BrightSpace and your student email account once set up.

**Orientation Day - Course Director Talks**

  • We are currently finalising the list of programmes that will have a Course Talk on September 6th and we will post the list on this page when complete.
  • For On-Campus programmes, most Course Directors have elected to give Course Talks talks on Sept. 6th, but some others may be making alternative plans with you closer to the start of semester.
  • Once the list is complete, if your programme is not listed please refer to Faculty-led Online Induction in preparation for your studies OR if you are not listed for a course talk, you are of course most welcome to join us on Sept. 6th for the other elements of Orientation if you wish.
