I am pleased to welcome you as you join the staff community at University of Limerick.

You are coming to our University at an exciting time as we near our 50th anniversary and continue to strive and thrive and develop

  • our extraordinary campus,
  • our student community
  • and our national and international reputation. A reputation that is based on the impact and reach of our academics, researchers, students and alumni supported by our professional administration and support staff.

UL is a driver for change locally, national and internationally and, at every level, we are ambitious to play our part in designing solutions to the challenges facing us in the world today. We value and understand the importance of all kinds of research and learning in meeting these challenges – in society, education and culture; in health, in science and engineering, in business and with the principle of sustainability at the heart.

Our University has played a significant role in the economic and social development of the Mid-West, and in the transformation of third level education in Ireland. We have many plans for the future and want to engage with everyone who is part of the UL story in a positive and transformative way.

As you can probably tell, I am not originally from Ireland. When I joined UL, I was struck by two things: the expanse and natural beauty of its campus on the banks of the River Shannon convenient to the city of Limerick; and the sense of community and the pride in what UL has achieved among everyone who works here.

I was made to feel welcome when I first arrived and, in time, I look forward to meeting you in person to extent the same hand of greeting. But for now, let me wish you the best as you begin a new chapter in life. I hope that your time in UL is as fulfilling, career enhancing and enjoyable as mine continues to be and I look forward to working with you to advance the university and to develop the talent of all our students and staff.
