Employee Relations

The University of Limerick is committed to the development and maintenance of a positive working environment for all staff. The Employee Relations team provides employee relations, equality and diversity advice and support to all University staff and managers. The team advises, coaches and supports managers at all levels in the University, with regard to management best practice and their statutory responsibilities towards staff. The Employee Relations team is responsible for investigating disciplinary matters and allegations of grievance, with a focus on the early resolution of employee relations issues through positive intervention at a local level. The team is also responsible for representing the University, as required, at meetings with the University representative trade union UNITE and at third-party hearings.

In collaboration with the Health & Safety section, the Employee Relations team are responsible for the Employee Health & Wellness Programme which offers a range of health and wellness screenings and information sessions to all University staff throughout the year.

The Employee Relations section is responsible for the provision and promotion of the University’s Employee Support Service (ESS). The ESS provides a free confidential counselling and advice service to all University staff who may be experiencing personal or work-related difficulties, which could post a threat to their health, wellbeing, relationships or job. The ESS freephone helpline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1800 201 346.  The Employee Relations section is also responsible for the provision of an Occupational Health Service for all staff, as required.
