As we have already identified students can sometimes become frustrated with the delay between giving their feedback and then finding out what will be done with it. A quick in the moment evaluation is a good way to gather feedback within a teaching session. It can help you to understand the things that are going well and also helps to identify what could be improved or modified.

It can be good for students too as it benefits them immediately as changes can happen before the end of the module.

Ways to carry out Evaluations

Specific and meaningful questions

Students are asked to specifically focus their attention upon their learning and your teaching and how these interact. One way to achieve some balance here is to word the questions so students realise that learning is a joint venture with shared responsibility.

Responses to these questions can be gathered either on pen and paper within the classroom time or you could use technology either in the class or in student’s own time.

There are many apps available to use and students can use their own device for this. MS Forms, within your www.office.com bundle, is very useful for this. The benefit of using technology is that it can gather all the responses in one file that will be emailed to you at the end of the session. Students can also respond anonymously (especially important in smaller classes). You can gather responses and do a quick tally of responses in each question.

Subsequently, you can then further categorise those into:
