Access to and around the University is easy on a bicycle. Cycling facilities outside and inside the campus have been constructed as a response to the recent increase in the number of cyclists travelling to the campus. The University of Limerick is a smarter travel campus: with the support of Limerick Smarter Travel, the University is committed to the promotion of sustainable modes of travel.

The UL Bike Doctor operates each Tuesday during term from 10:00 to 15:00 offering free bike mechanic services as part of the Farmer’s Market.
- The service is paid for by the University.
- The mechanic services bikes on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Labour costs are free but there is a charge for parts replacement.
- You cannot leave your bike with the mechanic with instructions. You must wait for your turn in the queue.
- The University is not responsible for your bike. If you leave your bike unattended and it is taken, no liability will be accepted.
With support from Limerick Smarter Travel, the University has purchased a number of fleet bikes that can be used by staff and students. You can borrow a bike for up to a week and see if you’d like to make cycling your primary means of travel – and it’s free!
To arrange to borrow a bike email us at Smartertravel@ul.ie
To promote cycling and cycle safety on campus UL Smarter Travel organises free Bike Maintenance Classes for staff and students interested in knowing the basics of servicing their own bike. Classes typically cover: how to fix/replace a tube, how to adjust/change your brakes, how to adjust your gears and how to change your brake cables.
To sign up for one of these classes or to simply find out more, email SmarterTravel@ul.ie with the title ‘Bike Maintenance Classes’.
