University of Limerick hosts a visiting scholars programme in association with Scholars at Risk Ireland. Scholars At Risk Ireland is part of an international network working to defend the human rights of scholars around the world. It advocates on behalf of academics who have been persecuted or otherwise threatened in their home country.

Scholars at Risk are scholars from around the world who are facing immediate and severe threats, including threats of violence, torture, wrongful imprisonment or persecution.

UL has established a fund which Scholars at Risk can apply to in order to support a placement at University of Limerick and enable them to continue their academic work. The programme is a partnership between the Office of the Vice President Research and UL Global
