The Faculty of Education and Health Sciences is pleased to invite you to attend the fourth session of this academic year’s Knowledge with Impact public lectures on Tuesday, 06 May. This lecture will delivered as part of the IPERN-PHECC Research Roundtables.

- Dr. Niamh Cummins, School of Medicine: "Building Research Capacity in Paramedicine: A sustainable patient-centred solution to wicked problems in our health system?"
Lecture description:
From "Ambulance Drivers" to Specialist Paramedics this talk describes the evolution of Ireland's youngest healthcare profession. It will outline the key role that Emergency Medical Services play in our Health System and describe the development of a National Research Strategy for Paramedicine. It will highlight the potential for new models of integrated, patient-centred care in the community to reduce the burden on primary care and acute hospitals.
Speaker bio:
Dr. Niamh Cummins is an Associate Professor in Public Health at the School of Medicine in UL and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Paramedicine at Monash University. Niamh is particularly interested in the integration of health services, clinical screening tools and research capacity building. Her research has driven national policy changes in Paramedicine including updates to clinical practice guidelines, the development of new models of care and the publication of a national research strategy. Niamh is the Founder and Chair of the Irish Paramedicine Education and Research Network (IPERN). She is a member of the College of Paramedics Public Health Special Interest Group, an Associate Editor for the journal Paramedicine and sits on the International Advisory Board for the Wales Centre for Primary and Emergency Care Research. Niamh also acts as a patient advocate and firmly believes in participatory health research and experience-based co-design.
