Thursday, 9 February 2023

A group of 3rd and 4th Year languages students from the School of Modern Languages & Applied Linguistics took the opportunity to join other students across Ireland for an virtual visit to the European Commission' translation service online. Staff translators from the European Commission talked about their career paths, how they combine technology, the good old paper dictionary and the 'hive mind' in their every day work, and how to become a translator. The event was opened by Stella Clarke, Head of the English Language Department at the European Commission, and closed with the chance for students to collaborate on translation activities in language-specific workshops, led by staff translators. UL organiser was Prof Jean Conacher, Course Director, BA in Applied Languages.
