On 7 February 2024, the AHSS PhD Development Session held a workshop on ‘Preparing for Future Careers in both academic and non-academic roles’. The seminar was of interest to all PhD students who were thinking about their career prospects, both in academic and non-academic roles.

Speakers and their topics at the event included; Elaine Kiely – Careers Advisor, Cooperative Education and Careers Division, UL ‘The value of Networking and LinkedIn for Professional Development’. Gail Flanagan – PhD Researcher and Tutor in Linguistics and Business Communication ‘Industry CV review with focus on skills summary and behavioural interview preparation’. Michelle Daly – Associate Teacher, TESOL/Intercultural Communication and PhD Researcher, TESOL/Applied Linguistics CVs for an Academic Role.

The session focused on the guiding principles for creating an effective Academic CV and drawing on useful resources, including a critical analysis of sample Academic CVs.
