The new Women in Aviation International Scholarship programme is a partnership agreement between Women in Aviation International, UL’s Kemmy Business School (KBS) and the University of Limerick Foundation.

The initiative allows for the awarding of 11 scholarships for female students enrolled in the Professional Diploma in Aviation Leasing at the KBS, which is the first level 9 university-accredited programme in Ireland tailored for the Aviation Leasing sector.

This unique module is the world's leading academic course on aircraft leasing. More than half of all commercial aircraft are currently leased and this important module aims to provide students with a thorough and systematic coverage of the important aspects of aircraft leasing and it explains why this financing mechanism has become a core competency when acquiring aircraft. The five major objectives of the module are: 

  • To provide a thorough examination of the aircraft and engine leasing market  

  • To outline the different mechanisms that are available to finance aircraft 

  • To provide a comprehensive analysis of the content of an operating and financial lease  

  • To determine how aircraft are financially valued throughout their economic  

  • To provide students with experiential learning of the how aircraft operating leases are negotiated between leasing companies and airlines

Learning outcomes:  

On the successful completion of this module participants will understand:  

 

 

 

 

Cognitive: 

 

  • Distinguish between and examine the aircraft and engine leasing business and its trends  

  • Discover the different types of financing including securitisation that is available in the marketplace when procuring aircraft  

  • Establish the crucial terms in operating leases, such as deposits, maintenance reserves, return provisions, operating restrictions and defaults  

  • Formulate and negotiate an aircraft/engine leasing letter of intent  

  • Identify and examine the legalities and associated risks of aircraft asset management 

 

 

 

Affective: 

 

  • Display a level of expertise in aircraft leasing contracts             

  • Participate in valuing aircraft throughout their economic life cycle 

  • Display a culture of 'fine tuning' a leasing contract so that it meets the customer requirements                               

  • Attempt to visually match the condition of the leased aircraft to the specifications set out in the lease agreement. 

 

Assessment:  

There is no final exam for this module. You will be assessed through 1-2 continuous skill-based assignments, provided by your lecturer. 

The programme is open to managers and supervisors from a variety of disciplines or those aspiring to a managerial role with three to five years organisational experience in a relevant field.  Completion of an NFQ level 8 qualification or equivalent is required. 

Entry requirements are established to ensure the learner can engage with the course material and assessments, at a level suitable to their needs, and the academic requirements of the module. By applying to this micro-credential, you are confirming that you have reviewed and understand any such requirements, and that you meet the eligibility criteria for admission.

Successful completion of this module does not automatically qualify you for entry into a further award. All programme applicants must meet the entry requirements listed if applying for a further award.
