University of Limerick has ranked within the top 75 universities in Europe for excellence in teaching and learning according to the latest Times Higher Education Europe Teaching rankings.
UL has risen in the past year in the ranking, which measures 258 institutions in 18 countries. UL is the 3rd highest ranked higher education institution in Ireland as well as 1st in Ireland for the Engagement metric, measuring how well the institution engages with the student body.
UL President Dr Des Fitzgerald has welcomed UL’s position on the listing: “Teaching and learning are at the core of the student experience ethos at UL. In choosing UL, students have entrusted us with their education and in turn we are graduating some of the most employable people in the country and many of whom go on to be the decision makers and future leaders of tomorrow.
“UL is now among the best universities for teaching excellence in Europe as the university has excelled in areas of student engagement, resourcing, appropriate outcomes and the inclusive learning and teaching environment of the campus,” he added.
The categories considered in the ranking are: Engagement – does the institution effectively engage with its students? Resources – does the institution have the capacity to effectively deliver teaching? Outcomes – does the institution generate appropriate outputs for students? Environment – is the teaching and learning environment inclusive?
This is the second year of THE’s pioneering Europe Teaching Ranking, which strives to uncover richer and deeper insights into global higher education. It is the first international university ranking focused entirely on teaching and learning.
