Dr. Triona McCaffrey
Biography
Dr Tríona McCaffrey is a Lecturer in Music Therapy at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick. Her clinical background is in adult mental health and dementia care, having established the first full-time music therapy post in statutory mental health provision in Ireland at Mayo Mental Health Services. Tríona has extensive experience as a music therapy educator having worked as clinical supervisor, guest lecturer and music skills tutor prior to becoming a full-time faculty member of the Irish World Academy in 2010. Her research primarily uses qualitative and arts-based methodologies. She is particularly interested in the role of the arts in mental health recovery, perinatal mental health, maternity care and music therapy post development. In 2014 Tríona completed her PhD in service user evaluation of music therapy which led to her establishing the Alliance for Recovery Research in Music Therapy, an international research group dedicated to the active involvement of service users in music therapy and mental health research. Tríona is also a founding member of the Arts and Health Research Cluster at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance and member of UL's Health Research Institute.Research Interests
