Rebecca is a PhD researcher completing her research thesis on 'An Examination into the Management of Criminal Behaviour within Ireland's Special Care Units, and its Alignment with the Welfare Aims of the Special Care System' under the supervision of Prof. Sean Redmond, Dr. Lydia Bracken and Dr. Catherine Naughton. A mixed methods approach was utilised incorporating doctrinal, comparative and social science research methods. Rebecca received the Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences' fee waiver in 2022 and the School of Law, three year Honourable Justice John Murray Fellowship in 2019. Rebecca has disseminated her research at a number of international and national conferences including the European Society of Criminology Conference, the British Society of Criminology Conference and the Society of Legal Scholar's Annual Conference.
