The Glucksman Library has just launched a new series of Research Data Management (RDM) workshops.
The Series “Research Data Management – The Path to FAIR” consists of three independent half day sessions.
In order to create data sets that are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR), data needs to be managed from the start of the research project. The workshop series is designed to help researchers understand the diversity of data and their management needs across the research data lifecycle. To be able to identify the components of good data management, and familiarise them with best practices for working with data including the organization, documentation, storage and security of data.
Session 1: Research Data Management will introduce researchers to the principles of RDM and will enable the participants to plan their data management from the start of their research projects.
Session 2: Tidy Data in Spreadsheets will address good data organisation in programmes like Excel. Participants will learn in hands-on exercises how to structure data in a machine readable way to maximise its utility.
Session 3: Data Cleaning with OpenRefine introduces OpenRefine as a tool to effectively clean, structure, enrich and format (tabular) data. Practical exercises will highlight the potential to save endless hours of manual data correction.
