Biography
Mairéad has extensive experience in nursing practice and education. She joined the University of Limerick in 2006 as the Clinical Skills Laboratories Coordinator and has experience in management, teaching, module leadership and curriculum design, ensuring that clinical skills pedagogy is developed and represented appropriately across programmes within the department. Prior to UL, Mairead held various roles within the Health Service Executive such as Registered General Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist. Mairead is currently working on a nationally funded teaching and learning enhancement project within the department and is passionate about the role of simulation-based education and technology-enhanced learning within the fields of nursing and midwifery.
Research Interests
Research Interests: Clinical Skills Pedagogy; Simulation Based Education; Technology Enhanced Learning; Nursing Education. Current research projects include a nationally funded Simulation in Nursing & Midwifery (SiNM) project within the Department and a Health Research Institute-Health Implementation Science and Technology (HRI-HIST) funded collaborative project between the Department of Nursing & Midwifery and University Hospital Limerick.

- HSE Mid West Community Healthcare Infection Prevention and Control Teams - Provided online support and education sessions for community services in the Mid West during the Spring / Summer 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.
- 2011-2019 Coordinates/develops/designs the annual DNM summer camp aimed at secondary school students who have an interest in nursing and/or midwifery as a career choice. The camp is now in its 10th year.
