Ms. Anita Barmettler


Anita Barmettler works at UL since 2014, where she teaches the German language, the history of the German speaking countries and German literature with focus on Swiss literature.
She worked as a primary school teacher for several years in Zurich, Switzerland and she followed this with her Studies of Culture at the University of Lucerne. She finished her Bachelors and Master's degree of Arts with the emphasis on Jewish Studies. Currently she is writing her PhD about the three Kindertransport-poets Karen Gershon, Gerda Mayer and Lotte Kramer. Other research interests are films, gender studies and contemporary German literature.

The study of poetry as a tool to overcome traumatic experiences (specifically Holocaust)
The manipulation of the public through mainstream movies for political agendas
The depiction of female heroes during history and its effect on society
The study of fiction to express the challenges of German-Jewish identity
