Biography
Tom Collins is director of the National Centre for Taxation Studies in the Kemmy Business School in the University Of Limerick. He lectures in International Tax Issues and Advanced Tax Issues on the B.A. (Hons) in Applied Taxation. He also acts as moderator on the Diploma in Applied Taxation programme on three modules. He has also lectured in Wealth management on the MSc (Computational Finance). He currently lectures in the Master of Taxation programme in Principles of International Tax, Business Taxes (co taught) and Indirect Taxes (co taught). Tom has over 27 years' experience with Big 4 tax practices in Ireland (PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte) and New Zealand (Ernst & Young). Prior to joining the University of Limerick he was a Tax Director with Deloitte up to August 2007, specialising in international tax, real estate and wealth management. He has presented papers on International Tax at various academic conferences. He has also had a number of both technical and academic articles published. He co-authored a submission to the Commission on Taxation on behalf of the Irish Universities Association (IUA). He has lectured extensively for various professional bodies.
Tom currently acts as external examiner in University College Cork on a range of tax modules.
Tom co-chaired the 10th ECEG conference on e-Government at the University of Limerick in June 2010 which was attended by over 150 delegates from over 40 countries. His specific research areas are in international tax and business succession and transaction taxes. Tom is an Associate of the Institute of Taxation and holds a Certified Diploma in Accounting & Finance. He was awarded a first class honour (Masters in Commerce) for his research thesis on Transfer Pricing under the supervision of Dr Emer Mulligan at NUIG. He is currently undertaking a PhD on a tax related topic.
He has lectured extensively for various professional bodies including the Continuous Professional Development programme, organised by the Kemmy Business School in conjunction with the Institute of Charted Accountants in 2009.
Tom has featured on Local and National media in relation to taxation matters including providing expert opinions on various Budgets and broader tax issues.
