Dr. Paul Conway
Biography
Graduate of St. Patrick's College (BEd), Drumcondra, Boston College (MEd) and Michigan State University (PhD). Have worked at: University of Michigan-Flint, Cleveland State University, University College Cork prior to UL. Research interests: learning and development, teacher education, educational policy (in two areas: e-learning; teacher education), psychology and pedagogy of literacy & mathematics, and cognitive and socio-cultural perspectives on learning. Research has been funded by a range of bodies - both national and international. His research has appeared in a range of journals including Studies in Educational Evaluation, Teachers College Record, Teaching and Teacher Education, Identity: An International journal of Theory and Research, Irish Educational Studies, Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology. He is a former President (2008-10) of the Educational Studies Association of Ireland (ESAI) and has been a member of both the Council of the European Education Research Association (2006-08) and World Education Research Association (2009-13) on behalf of ESAI. He is currently joint General Editor of Irish Educational Studies (SSCI-indexed journal, Routledge). He has been a Visiting Scholar at the University of Western Australia, Michigan State University (2000-06) and Oxford University.Research Interests
Research Interests: Informed by cognitive and socio-cultural perspectives on learning and development, my research focuses on learning theories, teacher education (particularly initial teacher education and its interface with other phases in the continuum), the psychology and pedagogy of literacy and mathematics and policy developments in two areas: teacher education & e-learning. Research has been funded by a range of bodies - both national and international - including the Irish Research Council (Advanced Collaborative Research Award, 2012-13), National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA), National Council for Special Education (NCSE), Teaching Council, European Science Foundation (ESF), Irish Aid, Norwegian Research Council, Uwezo, Ohio Dept of Education, Department of Education and Skills (DES).
