Biography

Max McGuinness is a Teaching Assistant in French at UL. In 2019, he completed his PhD in French at Columbia University with a dissertation about the relationship between literary modernism and the mass press. He has published articles in the journals Bulletin d'informations proustiennes, Dix-Neuf, and French Studies Bulletin. Other publications include a translation of André Bernold's memoir of Samuel Beckett, Beckett's Friendship 1979-89 (Dublin: Lilliput Press, 2015).
From 2016 until early 2020, Max was the New York theatre critic for The Financial Times. He also occasionally reviewed opera and television for The FT. He contributes regular book reviews to the online weekly magazine Air Mail.

Press and literature in nineteenth and early twentieth-centuy France; literature and the internet; Proust and politics.
