Dr. Lindsey Garratt

Biography

Lindsey Garratt is a Lecturer in Sociology, University of Limerick, she was previously a Senior Lecturer in Education in Manchester Metropolitan University and a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the ESRC Centre on Dynamics of Ethnicity (CoDE). She completed her doctoral work in Trinity College Dublin, under the Trinity Immigration Initiative.
Her work focuses on understanding inequality through an intersectional approach, acknowledging not only socio-economic barriers but also racism, migration status, life-course and gender, especially in relation to youth and conceptions of childhood and adolescence. She is a scholar of psycho-social attributes such as authenticity, resilience and reflectivity as they are applied to policy. Emerging areas of interest include dual-heritage and new religious movements in Ireland. She is currently developing the Migration and Families Network, in conjunction with Manchester Metropolitan University and Plymouth University. The network brings together academics and policy makers to examine policy and law reform in the U.K and Europe as it relates to families and migration.
