Biography
Helen is a chartered cognitive psychologist and lecturer in the Department of Psychology. She holds a PhD from the School of Psychology, University College Dublin (funded by an Irish Research Council scholarship), with her research receiving the Dr Máire de Paor Award of excellence. Helen's research programme centres on understanding the interdependence between cognition and action, and involves both fundamental and applied study. Her research exploits novel experimental methods (e.g., eye-tracking technology, cognitive pupillometry) and paradigms (e.g., dual-task, task-switching) to examine the elaborate interconnections between action performance and action-related thinking (particularly during motor imagery, action perception, action-related language, action judgements). Helen is co-founder and member of the Perception and Motor Cognition Group at University College Dublin, and she has researched and published across the disciplines of cognitive psychology, human neuroscience, psychiatry, sport, and music.Helen welcomes interdisciplinary collaborations with established researchers and students who have similar research interests, are concerned with better understanding the human mind, and share a vision to explore science-led solutions for preventing cognitive and motor decline and promoting brain-mind-body health.
