Biography
Dr. Gursahib Singh Bhatia joined Bernal Institute, University of Limerick (UL) as a Postdoctoral researcher in April 2022. His research is focused on composite materials manufacture, characterization, failure analysis and development for the purpose of identifying suitable composite material systems for employment in the next generation of large Offshore Wind and Tidal Power platforms.Gursahib completed his Doctoral research in Aug 2021 in the Department of Applied Mechanics, Indian Institute of Technology Madras. His doctoral research was focused on 'Experimental Investigations on Static and Fatigue Studies of Patch Repaired CFRP Composites'. The objective of the work was to identify key parameters influencing the post repair performance of composites under different static and cyclic mechanical loadings.
Gursahib has expertise in quasi-static testing of laminates using different electromechanical UTM setups. He is proficient in the use of dynamic test setups involving constant load amplitude cyclic tests using servo-hydraulic fatigue machines, with emphasis on strain and damage monitoring using Digital Image correlation, strain gauges and Acoustic Emission. He has gained experience in testing the laminates under high speed impact testing using pressurized gas gun fired impact setup. He has experience in fabrication of laminates using Hand Layup, Vacuum Resin Infusion and Autoclave.
Gursahib's current research interests are in the fields of material characterization, studying damage evolution in composites, repair of composites, application of machine learning in the field of material testing and development.
