Biography
Dr Eoin O'Connell, holds a PhD in the area of wireless integration of fibre optic sensors. He also has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), a Bachelors degree in Telecommunications (Hons.). He is also a graduate from Limerick Institute of Technology, where he received an NCEA Diploma in electronic engineering in 1996, and an NCEA Certificate in electronic engineering in 1995. Dr O'Connell also has other qualifications in Electronics, Telecommunications, IT, Cloud Computing, Computer forensics and to Instructor Level in Cisco Networking. He is currently engaged in research in the areas of IoT around the topics of cyber-physical modelling, digital twinning, system scalability, security vulnerabilities, edge processing techniques and sensor development. He has worked as a research and development engineer and as a systems engineer before returning to the University of Limerick. He is currently working in the Electronic & Computer Engineering department as a lecturer at the University of Limerick. Dr O'Connell is an academic member of two research groups in the University, The Optical Fibre Sensors Research Centre (OFSRC) and the Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIS). Dr O'Connell has an extensive track record in research activity having supervised many postgraduate projects (40+ postgraduates including PhD students graduated) https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3173-140X
