Biography

Dr Deirdre Dunlevy is a lecturer in Applied Linguistics. Deirdre holds a BA (Hons) in Language and Cultural Studies (Spanish) from UCC, an MPhil in Applied Linguistics, and a PhD in Sociolinguistics, both from Trinity College Dublin. She is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Before joining the Linguistics section at UL in 2021, Deirdre held positions at Ulster University, The Open University, University of Edinburgh, Queens University Belfast and the University of A Coruña (Spain), and worked on the AHRC funded OWRI project 'Multilingualism: Empowering Individuals, Transforming Societies'.

Research Interests

Deirdre's research interests lie within sociolinguistics, including linguistic landscapes (LL), multilingualism, minoritised languages, language policies and language legislation. Deirdre has published her research in various international journals and has contributed to a number of edited volumes on Linguistic Landscapes. In 2021 she co-edited the volume ‘Multilingualism in Public Spaces', published by Bloomsbury.
