Biography

I am Associate Professor in medieval & early modern literature, and I am currently Head of Subject for English.

I joined UL as a lecturer in English in 2015. Since then I have been Erasmus Coordinator for English; Final Year Project Coordinator, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; and editor-in-chief of The Ogham Stone, UL's literary journal: https://theoghamstoneul.com (2017-2021).

Previously I held two postdoctoral fellowships: I was Irish Research Council / Marie Curie CARA CoFund Postdoctoral Fellow (2010-13) at Queen Mary, University of London, as well as NUI Postdoctoral Fellow (2007-09) at UCC. I also held the positions of lecturer in Medieval & Renaissance Literature at UCC (2006-07) and Teaching Fellow in English at the University of Bristol (2013-14).

My current projects include an edited collection on medieval recipes, with Hannah Ryley (University of Oxford); a volume of the Index of Middle English Prose for the Wellcome Library, London; studies on the Caxton fragments held in the Bolton Collection, UL; and a special issue of Textual Practice with Mary C. Flannery. I supervise or co-supervise six doctoral students in AHSS and will be mentor to MSCA Postdoctoral Fellow Dr James Sargan from 2022.

My research interests include: late medieval & early modern manuscript/print culture; instructional and scientific cultures; women's writing in the medieval and early modern periods; medieval and early modern drama; early modern Irish literature; digital humanities; 19th century book collecting and sales; and medievalisms.

Activities: Executive Committee of the Centre for Early Modern Studies, Limerick; Secretary, Early Book Society. Member of review board, Aigne (UCC's Graduate Journal). Reader for The Mediaeval Journal, Viator. With Dr Emer Purcell I am also reviews editor of Oenach, the journal of the Forum for Medieval and Renaissance Studies in Ireland.
