Dr. Carmen Barquero Ruiz

Biography

I'm an Assistant Professor within the Physical Education and Sport Sciences (PESS) Department at the University of Limerick. I earned a Bachelor of Siences (BSc) degree in Sport Sciences with a minor in Physical Education, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Law and a Master of Sciences (MSc) degree in Physical Education and Health at UCAM University in Murcia, Spain. During this time, I also work part-time on coaching settings and earned an internship to work as research assistant. In addition, I was able to spend one semester at Universitá Foro Italico (Rome, Italy) within an Erasmus program during my BSc studies, and two months at University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, Scotland) during my MSc studies. After that, I was selected by Spanish Government for a full time teaching and researching contract while finishing my doctoral studies in Physical Education at University of Murcia (Murcia, Spain).
Before joining the PESS Department at the University of Limerick in 2023, I have been working at UCAM University for four years, University of Murcia for one year, and International University of La Rioja for one year. Also, thanks to different grants I obtained, I have been able to do four research stays at University of Tsukuba in Japan (2017), at University of Strathclyde in Scotland (2017 and 2022), and at Universidad Austral de Chile in Chile (2023).
Currently, I am teaching on competitive team and individual game-based activities (PY4091), Adventure and water based activities (PY4143) and Sociological concepts of teaching and learning in Physical Education (PY4055), and also supervising School Placements and Final Year Projects on the BSc in PE. Regarding to my research, I am working on the extent of TGfU between different cultural context and the benefits of an aligned assessment within invasion games.
