Dr Angela Boyce joined the Department of Biological Sciences as a Senior Technical Officer in 2023. After completing a BSc in Industrial Biochemistry, she obtained her PhD on animal feed enzymes from UL. She has subsequently worked as a post-doctoral researcher on various research projects, mainly in collaboration with industry, focusing on the use of enzymes in several industrial applications including low molecular weight heparin production (heparinase), bioethanol production (cellulase, xylanase, β-xylosidase, β-glucosidase and other lignocellulose-degrading enzymes), cleaning-in-place (protease and lipase), digestive supplements (beta-galactosidase), animal feed additives (phytase and beta-glucanase). Research work undertaken has included screening of microorganisms for ability to produce enzymes of industrial interest, native enzyme production, cloning and recombinant production of microbial enzymes, protein purification and biochemical and application-relevant characterisation of enzymes of industrial interest.
