Biography
Dr. Syed A.M. Tofail has a BSc and MSc in Metallurgical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and a PhD in Physics from University of Limerick, Ireland. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics, University of Limerick. In the field of metallurgical engineering, he has developed a new generation ternary shape memory and super-elastic alloy NiTi with rare earth elements. In the field of ceramics, he has developed piezoelectric ceramics of hydroxyapatite. In the field of polymers, he has developed durable, washable antimicrobial textiles which is effective against hospital superbugs as well as common flu viruses and SARS-CoV-2 virus. He has promoted 3 start up companies and the Chief Technical Officer of Solpacity Ltd., Ireland. His research and advises has saved million euros per month in process yield/improvements and recovered millions of euro worth products. He is the lead inventor of 15 granted patents and principal/co-principal investigator of national, European and International research projects of over 21 million. He has published over 150 journal articles and presented over 200 oral and poster presentations in international conferences.
