Associate Vice President, Graduate and Professional Studies

Dr. Raymond Lynch joined the Office of the Provost and Deputy President as Associate Vice President, Graduate and Professional Studies in January 2023. In this role, Ray has oversight of student recruitment and admissions on to graduate and professional education programmes at the University of Limerick.

Dr. Lynch is a native of Limerick and a proud graduate of the University of Limerick. Ray holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from UL where he was awarded the College of Education Silver Medal for outstanding academic performance. He also holds a PhD in Education with a specific focus on third level students’ interests and performance. 

Dr. Lynch has worked at the University of Limerick since 2006 in a variety of roles at department, faculty and institutional levels. Dr. Lynch is a Senior Lecturer in Education and prior to this was a Lecturer in Technology Education at UL. He also previously held the roles of Assistant Dean Academic Affairs for the Faculty of Education and Health Sciences, and the Assistant Dean for Graduate and Professional Studies.

The teaching, research and academic service work of Dr. Lynch is committed to the advancement of student engagement and academic accomplishment. His research focuses on student interests and motivation and how these can be leveraged to advance learning and teaching. Dr. Lynch has supervised a wide range of PhD and master’s degree students to the successful completion of meaningful research in this area of study. His research has helped further understandings of the relationship between students’ interests, motivation, engagement and performance.
