Dr Patrick Ryan is the Director of the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology at the University of Limerick, Ireland.  He is a graduate of The Queens University of Belfast.  A clinical psychologist for 17 years, he has been involved in the training of mental health professionals for ten years with a particular interest in the area of life span development and its contribution to understanding family relations.

He previously worked with The Psychological Society of Ireland as its first Director of Training and Accreditation.  He received a recognition award from The Psychological Society of Ireland in 2004.

Alongside his academic work Dr Ryan continues to work as a clinical practitioner in the area of mental health in adolescence and adults. His doctoral thesis examined the thinking factors that underlie adolescent depression.  He has a particular interest in working with people who exhibit offending behaviour and also in the area of family law.
