Use the checklist below to help you to prepare for graduation day and to ensure that the day is an enjoyable and memorable occasion for you.  

We recommend that graduands do not take phones, cameras or bags with them into the ceremony.  

We encourage you to celebrate your success by sharing photographs on social media with the hashtag #ULGraduation 

Doctoral Candidates: Please note you will be contacted separately with a link to sign up for a dress rehearsal prior to your ceremony. The rehearsal is compulsory and you must wear your robes. Please ensure you have confirmed your attendance at a rehearsal prior to the ceremony

FAQs

Have you paid all fees, cleared all debts to the University (including outstanding library fines) and returned all books to the library? You must do so by May to be eligible to graduate in June, by July to be able to graduate in August and by December to be able to graduate in January. 

You are required to confirm your attendance / non-attendance via the online registration link which will be sent to you by email to your UL student email account from ceremonies@ul.ie.  Students who choose not to attend our live conferring ceremonies will be conferred in absentia.  All Graduands will be emailed details about their graduation ceremony to their UL student email account from ceremonies@ul.ie. Graduands must access their UL student email account to access the necessary links to confirm their intention to attend and to book their graduands robes.

The ceremony lasts between an hour and 15 minutes to an hour and 30 minutes. 

You should arrive one hour in advance of your graduation ceremony, collect your pre-booked robes from Phelan Conan in EG-010, and go immediately to UCH to check in and confirm your attendance. You must be present in the appropriate graduands dress and seated in your correct place 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the ceremony. 

Babies and children under 7 years are not permitted to attend the ceremony. They may view the ceremony live on a large screen in a lecture theatre in the Foundation Building beside the Concert Hall. Supervision is not provided.

Robes will be available to book from Phelan Conan via an online link sent to all students in the coming days

Robes can be collected on the day from EG-010 room in the main building.  All robes must be returned to Phelan Conan as soon as possible after the conclusion of the event.

Due to the implementation of a personal 3D secure password during the credit card payment process on https://www.phelanconan.com Phelan Conan Ltd staff are no longer able to take bookings over the phone. This has been created to protect your online payments and if you don’t already have a 3D secure password you can activate it by following the simple instructions during the booking process.  If you experience any further problems with 3D secure process, please contact your bank.

Graduands are free to source robes independently if the gown and colours conform fully to University of Limerick standards.

Your parchment will be presented to you at your graduation ceremony.  

Academic Registry will also send an email to all graduates with a link to access the digital copy of UL parchment following your graduation ceremony.  

If you do not attend, a hard copy of your parchment will be posted to your registered postal address held by Academic Registry. You can also request that your parchment be sent to an alternative address by emailing ceremonies@ul.ie. Please provide your full name, ID number and course title in the email.

Please note that freelance photographers may be on campus on the days of conferring. Do not use any of the unofficial photographers who may be on campus. Each year, some graduates complain of non-delivery of photographs or of poor-quality work by these photographers.

Car parking will be available on campus each day for attending graduands.  

Yes. We will be providing light refreshments for all returning graduates and staff on the day. This will be provided in the University Concert Hall Atrium after your event.

Yes. Parchment Framing will be available to all students on the day. The service will operate in EG-010 (Ground Floor of the Main Building).

If you cannot attend your conferring ceremony, you will be conferred in absentia. 

PhD graduands are permitted to defer graduation once, and only until the following conferring session. 

Unfortunately, non-PhD graduands cannot defer their graduation.

Each graduand will receive two Adult Guest tickets for their ceremony. Requests for extra tickets cannot be accommodated due to finite capacity within the Concert Hall. The tickets will be posted to the graduand’s address registered with Student Records. Your adult guests must bring their tickets with them to gain admission to the Foundation Building and the ceremony. The ceremony will be streamed live over the internet; links to the streaming site are available on the graduation web page. If there are any spare tickets available on the day, they will be distributed from a ticket desk located near EGO-10 in advance of the ceremony.
