Dr Marie Connolly, Director of Human Rights, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, launched Tell Your Own Story (TYOS) on 14 October 2022, at our city campus.
The TYOS project is driven by Dr Maria Reiderie and Dr Marta Giralt. TYOS works towards diversity in mainstream media, taking a story-based approach to breaking down cultural barriers. TYOS empowers people to share their stories which foster inclusivity and empathy.
Dr Connolly addressed the audience saying, "The University of Limerick will not tolerate incidences of racism" and set out a favourite quote by Stephen Covey of hers that "strength lies in difference, not in similarity”. Marie further expressed that while diversity is a fact, inclusion is a choice we make every day, and as leaders, we have to put out the message that we embrace, and not just tolerate, diversity.
Marie wished Maria and all the TYOS team well with their future project and commended their aspiration to achieve their aim of attracting mainstream media in publishing their human-interest stories, helping to bridge bridges between cultures.
