Proof of address documents for student vetting

This schedule lists the documentation that the Garda National Vetting Bureau (GNVB) will accept when processing vetting applications. 

Strict Adherence: Only the documents listed are acceptable.

Applicants over 18 

Credit Institutions     

  • Bank Statement from a recognised bank (not private money lenders or Revolut)
  • Building Society Statement
  • Credit Union Statement or Passbook 

Utility providers

  • Utility Bill (the only utility bills accepted are: gas, electricity, television, broadband, waste and TV licence). Mobile phone/Car Insurance documents NOT accepted.

Government bodies

  • Correspondence from government departments (including SUSI Letter)

Local authorities

  • Letter from Local Council confirming tenancy 


Applicants under 18    

You need to provide two documents: one to prove who you are and one to show where you live.

If you’re under 18 and don’t have the usual documents, these will be accepted instead:

  • Your birth certificate
  • Or a written statement from your school principal or an accredited third level institution official that confirms you go there and shows your address
