Software for students

UL students can download and install Microsoft Office 365 (Microsoft 365 Apps) for free on personal devices including laptops and mobile phones. This will give you access to Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive for Business and Microsoft OneNote. Access and download instructions are available via Topdesk. 

Please note: You will only be able to access your UL email account and download Microsoft Office 24 hours after you have completed your registration / enrolment task.

What happens when I graduate?

Please review our Digital User Account Management page for information on accessing your Office 365 account when you complete your studies in UL. It is important that your data is backed up from your OneDrive account and any important emails are saved before your Office 365 account is deleted.

UL Students are eligible for a free downloadable copy of Matlab.

The University of Limerick signed an agreement with MathWorks that provides all students, educators, and researchers with access to MATLAB, Simulink, and additional products on and off campus, on any device. Everyone has access to MathWorks learning resources, including self-paced, online training, to quickly develop their MATLAB and Simulink skills.

SPSS is a program used for statistical analysis. UL has a site license for SPSS which includes unlimited authorised and concurrent licenses as well as student and staff home use which includes installation on personal devices. Usage of this software is subject to the terms and conditions specified by the vendor.

Maple is a mathematical software tool that combines the world’s most powerful math engine with an interface that makes it extremely easy to analyse, explore, visualise, and solve mathematical problems.

MINITAB is a general purpose statistical software package. Students and staff can use this software on campus, including on students’/teachers’ own machines but only while connected to the University of Limerick network.

Where can I download the latest Endnote Software, and update/renew the license code?
Students – You will need to contact the Library Information Desk (libinfo@ul.ie).

NVivo is intended to help users organize and analyse non-numerical or unstructured data. The software allows users to classify, sort and arrange information; examine relationships in the data; and combine analysis with linking, shaping, searching, and modelling.
