Monday, 18 May 2026

University of Limerick has announced the launch of a new postgraduate programme, the MA in Teaching Foreign Languages in a Multicultural Environment (TELME).

The innovative programme has been developed to prepare graduates for careers in foreign language education within increasingly multilingual and multicultural societies.

Delivered as part of an international Erasmus Mundus partnership, the two-year programme offers students the opportunity to study across a number of European universities while developing expertise in language teaching, intercultural communication and multilingual education.

Students will begin their studies at University of Limerick before progressing to partner institutions across Europe, including Université Rennes 2 (France), Åbo Akademi University (Finland), Adam Mickiewicz University (Poland), and the University of Burgos (Spain). This international structure provides students with valuable academic experience across different educational and cultural contexts.

The programme combines theoretical and practical learning, equipping students with advanced knowledge in language pedagogy, sociolinguistics, intercultural awareness, and applied linguistics, alongside supervised teaching experience.

Graduates of the programme will be prepared to work across a broad range of educational and international settings, including language education, curriculum development, educational policy, intercultural training, and multilingual communication environments.

Scholarship opportunities will also be available for eligible students through Erasmus Mundus funding.

The MA in Teaching Foreign Languages in a Multicultural Environment (TELME) will commence in September 2026.
