Micro-credential Learner Fee Subsidy 2026
At UL, we are committed to supporting lifelong learning and making flexible education more accessible to learners and organisations across Ireland.
In partnership with the Government of Ireland through the Higher Education Authority (HEA), UL is offering a range of career-focused MicroCreds under the Micro-credential Learner Fee Subsidy 2026 initiative.
These short, flexible and industry-relevant courses are designed to help learners upskill, reskill and progress professionally in a rapidly evolving workforce.
Eligible applicants are funded at 80% under the Micro-credential Learner Fee Subsidy 2026 initiative.
Please note:
- Funded places are limited
- Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis
- Courses will close once capacity is reached
- Early application is strongly recommended
- You may not enrol on more than 1 publicly funded course at the same time. Therefore, if you have accepted a place on a Springboard+ 2026/27 funded course, you are not eligible to apply for a module under the Learner Fee Subsidy.
- You are also limited to 1 subsidised module per semester under this scheme.
Subsidy Eligibility
In order to qualify for a subsidised place you must meet the strict eligibility criteria detailed at: https://microcreds.ie/subsidy-eligibility
Initial offers will be strictly conditional on you meeting this eligibility criteria, and you will be required to evidence your eligibility in the weeks prior to course commencement. Failure to do so, or false declarations may result in your subsidised place being revoked which will make you liable for the full module fee.
If you do not meet the published criteria to apply for and accept a funded place, we may be able to offer you a full fee-paying place on the module. Please Contact Us to discuss.
Fee Payment and Sponsorship
Subject to meeting the eligibility criteria, the Higher Education Authority (HEA) will subsidise your chosen module by 80% under this scheme. You will be required to pay the remaining 20% in full to accept a place under this subsidy.
The HEA will be recorded as your sponsor on our system, therefore the remaining 20% fee liability remains with the student. If your employer/other are paying this 20% on your behalf, it will be your responsibility to pay it up-front and arrange reimbursement from them.
How do I apply?
Funded places are in high demand and fill up quickly.
You must apply for micro-credentials approved for the learner fee subsidy on springboardcourses.ie
- You first must find and register for your micro-credential on https://springboardcourses.ie/.
- In 2-5 working days you will receive an email which will invite you to apply directly on University of Limerick's website. Please check your spam regularly to make sure you do not miss this email.
- Your application will be reviewed and if successful, you will receive a subsidised offer from University of Limerick. This offer is strictly subject to you meeting eligibility criteria. We recommend reviewing your eligibility on MicroCreds.ie before applying.
