Who we are

SHINE is a space in which interdisciplinary scholarship flourishes, where translational ground-breaking research originates, and where we prioritise a commitment to creating an inclusive and safe space for future generations.

At SHINE, we believe that it is through interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral dialogue that we create new knowledge to shape our understanding of how communities and societies can work towards combating hate and inequalities. Our members are drawn from across the academy who bring both disciplinary and methodological expertise to our work.

 SHINE is a Priority Research Centre at the University of Limerick, as a research grouping that accommodates a major research activity relevant to the University’s purpose, vision and goals. SHINE was established by decision of the UL Committee for Development and Implementation of Research Strategy (C-DIRS) and endorsed by the University Executive Committee. 

The Director of SHINE is Professor Jennifer Schweppe, and she is advised by a Steering Committee: Dr Stefano Angeleri (Coordinator, Human Rights Monitoring), Dr Emma Dolan (Coordinator, Global Visitors Programme); Dr Maria Hickey (Coordinator, Student Engagement); Dr Lindsey Garratt; Dr Luke Danagher (Editor, Research for Action); Dr Majka Ryan; and Dr Niloufar Omidi.
