UL Home European Centre for the Study of Hate Events Events Upcoming events Challenging Hate Conference Past events Ethnic Monitoring in the Criminal Justice System On Tuesday December 2nd 2025 at 2pm, Professor Amanda HAynes of the European Centre for the Study of Hate hosted a webinar: "Ethnic Monitoring in the Criminal Justice System" The event featured Dr. Avril Brandon (Maynooth University) and Prof Denis Bracken (Professor Emeritus, University of Manitoba) who spoke about their work in the area. This webinar sits within the ECSH theme, "Margins and Marginality", and reflects the work done by ECSH members exploring the relationship between minority communities and the justice system. Academic Meets Activist Event: Sailing to Gaza On Thursday 18th September 2025 the European Centre for the Study of Hate hosted its first Academic Meets Activist event of the year. “Sailing to Gaza: Personal Reflections on Civic Activism, Human Rights and the Flotilla Projects” featured Zoë Lawlor of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign in conversation with Dr Lindsey Garratt of the ECSH. The Academic Meets Activist series exemplifies the work of the ECSH. The AMA is a seminar series in which a “conversation” is held between an academic and an activist, in which we discuss our shared vision for an inclusive society and ways in which we can make that vision a reality.
