Who we are
The Autism@UL Special Interest Group (SIG) brings together individuals and organisations from UL and the wider community who are passionate about autism, neurodiversity, and inclusion.
Led by co-founders Dr Michelle O’Donoghue and Dr Cristiano Storni, the group includes UL staff, students, local organisations, and community members.
Our members include autistic individuals, families, advocates, allies, and researchers, many with overlapping roles.
Within UL we include senior Principal Investigators, early career researchers and PhD students from across the University’s faculties and institutions including the Bernal Institute, CSIS, Education, Health Research Institute, the School of Allied Health, KBS and PESS.
Our vision
We aim to lead and support initiatives and research that promote inclusion and neurodiversity-affirming environments.
The Autism@UL SIG fosters a community of practice to support each other and advance impactful research and good practice.
Aligned with UL’s mission for an Inclusive Society, we strive to make UL a fully inclusive campus and a leader in autism research, in collaboration with autistic researchers.
We seek to better understand the challenges and opportunities autism presents in university life for students, staff, and families.
We also promote multidisciplinary research that addresses priorities of the autism community and aim to build on autism-friendly frameworks, making UL a model for inclusive universities worldwide.
