Would you like to design how patients, staff, and technology interact, making systems more efficient, empathetic, and user-friendly?   

UL’s Professional Diploma in Healthcare Product and Service Development provides the skills to bring new healthcare solutions from concept through development to market.   

With a strong focus on product and service development the programme, the programme explores regulatory affairs and compliance (e.g., MDR, FDA), human factors and usability requirements in healthcare, alongside product and service design.  

Delivered in a design studio environment through a blend of online and campus learning, the programme combines creativity, peer learning, and transdisciplinary collaboration. Students will gain exposure to clinical settings and industry partner projects, developing practical solutions that address real-world healthcare challenges.   

You will be able to see products in use in a clinical setting and work on industry partner specific development requests. Ideal for Product managers, R&D professionals, or those involved in bringing healthcare technologies to market. 

This programme will earn 30 ECTS credits towards a Flexible Masters Pathway, allowing students to combine Postgraduate awards to achieve a Master’s over time. 

Graduates can use this diploma as a standalone qualification or as a pathway to UL’s MSc in Design for Health and Wellbeing or the Master of Professional Practice. 

During this programme, you will

  • Focus on product and service development processes, including product specification, concept development, prototyping and testing.
  • Apply current and impending legislation, regulation, and standards for the development of health services and products.
  • Learn about the physical, cognitive, and social aspects of human-technology interaction in healthcare.
  • Apply product and service design principles to developing innovative concepts and solutions to health and wellbeing challenges.
  • Develop concept development methods of design refinement, prototyping and testing
  • Learn about anatomy and physiology in emergent care, the causes, risk factors and symptoms associated with different types of disease profiles and the different types of treatments
  • Gain the competencies to solve real-life industry projects, with an options 8-week industrial learning placement.
