Broadening Horizons is a new initiative for second year pupils offered to schools.

The aim of this initiative is to teach pupils how to research a third level course in a fun activity- based manner.

Broadening Horizons is delivered through a partnership between the UL Access office and secondary schools in order to promote students ability to think critically about how the choices they make can impact on their future career.

Pupils learn about the following areas:

  1. The Leaving Certificate points system & the difference between Higher and Ordinary Level
  2. How to research a course and the language used in the application process
  3. Minimum Entry Requirements and Special Entry Requirements
  4. Third-level courses and employment

Upon completion of Broadening Horizons pupils are presented with certificates from the University, and parents are invited to the presentation. This helps to build links between the parents, students, schools and the University.
