Bobby O’Connor was appointed Director, Human Resources at the University of Limerick in March 2021.  He is an alumnus of UL with a BBS, major in Human Resource Management.   Prior to taking up the post of HR Director, he was the founding Chief Executive Officer of the UL subsidiary company Unijobs DAC.  He was previously a director of a large UK multinational company where he spent 13 years.

Under his leadership the HR function plays a pivotal role in University management through ensuring staff feel more valued and engaged to promote and support equality and diversity initiatives, to foster an atmosphere where excellence thrives and to show leadership in developing our people. 

The HR team have developed a Strategic Plan which aims to complement the University’s Strategic plan based on actions in four Key areas:

  1. Supporting Excellence in Teaching & Research
  2. Empowering and Developing
  3. Valuing and Engaging
  4. Operational Excellence

Support for the University from the HR Division is organised through Central Services which provides operational supports to staff through areas including Recruitment, Research, Compensation & Benefits and Pensions.  Staff support and development is provided through HR Business Partners, the Employee Relations office, the Learning & Development team, and HR Information Systems.    

Bobby represents the University at the IUA National HR Directors Group and is a member of a range of University committees including,  Executive Committee, Management Council, Operations Sub-committee, Space Management Committee, Recruitment Sub-committee, IT Governance Committee and several working groups.
