Our Services
The Science Learning Centre (SLC) supports undergraduate students studying any science and engineering modules at UL.
We provide support across a range of disciplines, including Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, and Biology. All 1st and 2nd year students can access support for any of their modules. We also support more advanced (3rd–5th year) modules; however, as these involve more specialised content, we may need additional preparation time to ensure we can meet your needs effectively.
We offer both structured and unstructured support options, so you can choose the format that suits your stage of study and learning preferences.

Support that works around you
As a 1st or 2nd year student, you can access all Science Learning Centre support formats in the way that suits you best. Whether you prefer a structured approach or something more flexible, we’ve got you covered.
- Structured support: Book online 1:1 appointments or, if a number of you are struggling with a challenging module, request group support tutorials.
- Unstructured support: Pop into our Drop-in Centre whenever it suits you – no appointment needed.
You’re encouraged to explore both formats and find what works best for your learning style.
Start with structured support for the best experience
If you’re in 3rd–5th year and have not availed of support from the Science Learning Centre before, we recommend starting with our structured supports. Booking an online appointment allows our tutors time to prepare in advance, ensuring we can provide the most effective, tailored support for your needs.
Once you're familiar with the service, you can also:
- Use our drop-in centre for quick, flexible support, or
- Browse our tutor list and email us to find out when a specific tutor will next be available in the drop-in centre.
This approach helps us make sure you get the most out of your time with us.
