The Centre for Project Management (CPM) at the Kemmy Business School at UL is the only centre of its type in Ireland that specialises in the provision of education, research and training in this discipline.

The Centre for Project Management, from its links with professionals in business and industry has identified a need amongst employers for graduates that possess a degree in a specialised discipline and who are capable of immediately engaging in projects at entry-level within their chosen field. The M.Sc. in Project Management full-time programme is designed to fulfil this need by providing graduates with contemporary project management approaches, developing theories and principles, deepening of knowledge, skills set and ability to critically analyse and engage actively in the development and integration of project management as a way of work within organisations. Project Management Training Programmes

This practically oriented 4-day training programme is designed to give participants an overview of the generic processes involved in managing projects. Through a combination of instructor led workshop sessions, an interactive learning environment is created where real issues, which arise in projects, are raised and analysed. The fundamentals of project management best practices are integrated throughout the sessions to demonstrate how the benefits of the generic processes can be used to achieve project success.

  • Experienced project managers, project team leaders, and those working in specialist disciplines within a project environment. This course will provide the fundamental skills required to adopt a structured approach to managing projects.

This programme occurs over 3 days and provides a comprehensive overview of the PMP® exam with detailed instruction and advice in what is expected to pass the exam and achieve certification.

Overview

  • The Project Management Professional (PMP)® exam is offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI), who have been acknowledged as pioneers in the field. Their membership represents a truly global community with more than 200,000 professionals, representing 125 countries. The PMP is the professions most globally recognized and respected credential.
  • This is an intense three-day exam prep course leading to delegates sitting the Project Management Professional exam with the PMI.

For whom

  • This course is aimed at those wishing to gain the qualification and to understand the terminology and principles behind the methods.

This course would benefit:

  • Project managers and team leaders who have several years project experience and who feel they have the necessary exposure but require assistance and direction to pass the examination.
  • Participants must be familiar with the basic elements of work breakdown structures, activity network diagrams and activity duration estimating, cost estimating, contracting, leadership and team development, quality management, risk, earned value management, and procurement.

Aims and Objectives

  • This course provides a comprehensive walk through of all of the PMBOK® Guide knowledge and process areas.
  • The programme has been revised and updated in line with the PMBOK® Guide 5th edition.

On completion you will:

  • Have a thorough understanding of the principles and processes described in the PMBOK® Guide.
  • Be able to cite the ten knowledge areas, their sub-processes and where each process fits into the five process groups etc.
  • Understand the major tools and techniques described in the PMBOK® Guide.
  • Be familiar with the type of questions regularly posed in the PMP exam (all sessions are complemented with sets of typical questions).
  • Complete a simulation PMP exam at the end of the course.

One particular facet that is core to the success of projects is the cycle of estimating, costing, budgeting, and subsequent tracking and control of these engagements. This two-day programme will focus on these particular dimensions, linked to the other relevant project finance and budgeting topics.
