An innovative project that aims to build resilience, foresight, and cross-sector collaboration across communities in Limerick and Munster has received a major funding boost through Rethink Ireland’s Impact Fund for Munster 2024.
Led by Andrea Deverell of the UL Centre for Sustainable Futures & Innovation, theTomorrow’s University project addresses the urgent need for long-term, inclusive approaches to complex societal challenges including climate breakdown, biodiversity loss, and social inequality.
Using a blend of digital exhibitions, participatory workshops, and strategic foresight tools, the project will support communities in imagining regenerative futures and co-creating locally grounded, actionable pathways for change.
The award will enable Tomorrow’s University to deepen its impact and expand its reach across Limerick and the wider Munster region making participatory futures thinking more accessible and working with participants to navigate uncertainty with imagination and agency.
“This award from Rethink Ireland enables us to expand the reach of the project in Limerick and Munster, reaching diverse audiences and fostering cross-sectoral collaboration,” said Andrea Deverell, project lead. “At a time of deep interconnected crises—climate, biodiversity, and social inequality—it is essential that we empower communities to collectively imagine and work towards a regenerative future. We look forward to partnering with Rethink Ireland to continue this work and contribute to building resilience and transformative capacity in our region.”
The award also reflects a growing recognition of the value of futures literacy and collective imagination in shaping more sustainable, just, and adaptive communities. The project team wishes to thank Rethink Ireland and all the contributors to the Impact Fund for Munster for their vision and support.
