Mathematics (Common Entry)

If you like mathematics and are good at it this course is a good choice for you. If you are interested in a career that involves using or applying mathematics, but may also be interested in physics or economics, this course gives you the flexibility to try these topics before focusing on one particular pathway.

Why study Mathematics at UL?

In UL, the focus is on applied mathematical sciences, where mathematics and statistics are used to solve problems that arise in science, engineering, industry, finance or society. The use of applied mathematical and statistical modelling is based on a philosophy of asking, and trying to understand, how things work. A problem or phenomenon of some sort occurs, and mathematics and statistics are used to explain, to understand and ideally to improve it. This programme will equip students with highly valued skills to translate real-world systems into the language of mathematics and give them the key tools to analyse and simulate these systems to uncover hidden patterns and trends and solve problems.
