UL’s four-year, full-time Graduate Entry Medical programme is aimed at providing the knowledge, skills, training and understanding for a graduate interested in pursuing a career in medicine to become a competent, confident, caring doctor.

The programme provides a solid grounding in the scientific basis of medicine, allied to an appreciation of the wider social and environmental context for health and illness.

The course provides a blend of theoretical learning and practical, apprenticeship-based application of your knowledge in a clinical setting.

Successful completion of the programme is followed by a one-year internship, which leads to full registration with the Medical Council. Internship places cannot be guaranteed for non-EU students. UL will optimise the employment prospects and opportunities for further training for all students following graduation.

During this programme, you will

  • Acquire the competence and confidence to become a caring doctor.
  • Gain an understanding of the scientific basis of medicine.
  • Recognise the social and environmental context in which health and illness exist and in which medicine is practised.
  • Develop a commitment to service, teamwork, scientific enquiry, self-fulfilment and life-long learning.
