Developed by University of Limerick, the programme offers a practical and stimulating environment for reading and research in local history. 

Whether you're already active in the field, pursuing personal development, or considering further study, this certificate provides a recognised qualification and a strong foundation for deeper exploration.

Location: Delivered in the unique setting of the historic 19th-century workhouse in Portumna and in partnership with the Irish Workhouse Centre. 

During this programme, you will

  • Identify, locate, and interpret both primary and secondary historical sources
  • Build practical skills for conducting independent local history research
