Meet Jack

Jack currently holds a BSc in Product Design & Technology from the University of Limerick, and is a recent graduate of the MSc in Design for Health and Wellbeing. He has recently been accepted to undertake a PhD in Maynooth University. His research interests include user-centered design and design for health. The main aim of this project was to explore design solutions to address a currently unmet need to reduce the risk of repeat/secondary concussion for extreme sports athletes, using state of the art research and user centered design principles.

The findings of the MDP indicated that there was an opportunity to address this need through improving the detection, protection, and treatment of concussions for action sports athletes. BCT consists of both a wearable and an app to help manage concussions. The wearable component uses blood protein analysis through chemical reaction instead of electro-scanners, and the questionnaire uses the robust mRPQ and MPAI-4 questionnaires for concussion detection. BCTs detect, diagnose, and assess the severity of a concussion as it occurs, guiding the user to a safe space, alerting emergency authorities, and aiding them on the road to recovery.
